Job Title: Innovation Consultant
Reports to: Head of Innovation and Publishing
Overall Job Purpose:
The design and development of intellectual property to support OPP Solutions. To project manage and deliver small and medium development projects without close supervision, including piloting with clients. To work with CRM and Key Account Managers to develop business opportunities.
Utilisation:
20% Understanding the Solutions marketplace
30% on proposal writing and piloting of new material
50% of time in the research and design of IP to be embedded within our Solutions offers.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Understanding the Solutions Marketplace
- Undertake competitor research to investigate what other HR and business psychology consultancies offer, what intellectual property underlies their offers, and how it is presented to the market.
- Working closely with Key Account Manager, CRMs and Marketing, develop a detailed understanding of what selection of products and services OPP customers want, and how these can be developed and packaged as Solutions. Activities will include client meeting with key accounts and involvement in market research activities.
- Knowledge Development & Management
- Take the lead in scoping and developing OPP’s new Solutions offer.
- Ensure that the OPP Solutions are innovative, commercially competitive, market-focussed and aligned with OPP’s strategy.
- With the support of IPAT and R&D, adapt and develop IPAT-style consulting as an offer for OPP – both in the UK and internationally.
- Develop novel ideas for services to ‘wrap around’ OPP’s intellectual property (product and training) within a Solutions offer.
- Participate in, and manage when required, interdepartmental projects to develop new IP to support OPP’s Solutions offers.
- Follow OPP Project Management processes for all significant development projects, including accounting for time across the business and any other costs incurred.
- Business Development
- In conjunction with Key Account Managers and CRMs, provide technical expertise to business development of Solutions, showing interpersonal skills and credibility.
- Provide sound advice to clients, demonstrating knowledge of OPP’s the full range of products and services.
- Take the lead in preparing Solutions proposals, in an efficient, innovative and timely manner, making maximum benefit of existing IP whilst ensuring that the presented client solution is tailored to meet that client’s specific strategic needs.
- Follow internal Business Development processes effectively and encourage others to do the same.
- Promote OPP as innovative to a wide audience through presentations at scientific and practitioner conferences, writing of white papers, case studies and marketing collateral.
Carry out other such duties as may reasonably be required, commensurate with the grade of this post.
This job profile is current as at the date shown below. In consultation with the post-holder it is liable to variation by management to reflect or anticipate changes in or to the job.
Essential competencies
- Chartered or eligible for Chartership of BPS or equivalent post graduate qualification Qualification and applications experience in OPP’s Core IP: MBTI and 16PF.
- Track record of credibility in delivering a wide range of consulting solutions and applying psychometric tools and techniques to a broad range of clients (sector and seniority) in a commercial environment.
- Design and delivery of Consultancy without supervision (e.g. AC/DC design and management, team facilitation, executive coaching, conflict resolution).
- Research experience beyond MSc project.
- Experience of developing business psychology IP, such as AC exercises, business simulations, packaged delivery solutions, training programmes.
- Track record of successful BD, including taking the lead in the development of winning bids (at least £50k).
- Experience of following Project Management Processes, and track record of delivering on time, to quality and budget.
- Expertise in one of the following applications: Leadership Development, Selection, Talent management.
- Expertise in research methods.
- Research publication track record (including conference presentations).

The role is Oxford based with some flexibility to work remotely. Ability to travel within the UK to attend client premises. Occasional travel outside UK, including US and Europe.
Desirable qualities
- Level A and B.
- Qualification in OPP’s other psychometric tools, including 360-feedback, CPI, FIRO-B, TKI, Strong.
- Contributing to marketing, e.g. writing articles / case studies for internal and external publications.
- Conducted research projects involving psychometric products and their business application.
- Experience of developing successful client proposals for high value Solutions (£100K+).
