Rob Hepworth, Lead Learning Consultant

Why did you join OPP®?

As an Occupational Psychologist, I had been considering a move to OPP® for some time. OPP has a fantastic reputation within the Occupational Psychology field for being market leaders in management and team development - exactly the type of work in which I was keen to specialise. As soon as I had joined OPP as a Senior Consultant I knew that I had made the right decision.

What does your role involve?

In my role as Lead Learning Consultant, around 60% of my time is spent delivering training courses which qualify people to use psychometric instruments, including the MBTI® instrument, 16PF® and CPI®, as well as qualifying them in British Psychological Society Certificates of Competence (Level A and B). The remainder of my time is spent designing new training courses, managing and improving existing courses, and working on ad-hoc projects such as providing executive coaching services and contributing to OPP's Consultancy team in either a design or delivery capacity.

What do you love about working for OPP?

OPP has fantastic integrity and professionalism in the way that it applies its product range, and takes a strong ethical stance in the way that it qualifies people to use its psychometric instruments. OPP's integrity and excellent reputation for quality and expertise remains one of the key reasons why I continue to choose to work for OPP.

What development opportunities have you had?

OPP is excellent at recognising and developing talent within their organisation - it is great that this is a value that OPP promotes to its clients, as well as putting into practice itself. Through my promotion to Principal Consultant, OPP has provided me with a wide range of senior level consultancy work, and trusted me with a large amount of responsibility. This includes project managing large consultancy projects and managing externally accredited training courses. OPP has also qualified me to use all of their psychometric instruments and has funded me in a Diploma in Executive Coaching and a Certificate in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy.

What was your dream job when you were a child?

When I was young I wanted to be an astronaut. Why would you want to be anything else? By the time I reached secondary school I had become slightly more realistic - I had always liked studying complex problems, and I couldn't think of anything more complex to study than people, and so became a psychologist. As people are so fascinating and unique, and because psychology is such a broad field, I never get bored, despite having worked full-time as a psychologist since 1994.
